People prefer to work for organisations that reflect their own enthusiasm, passion and values. Values are anything that keeps and enables people to feel alive, and passionately committed to the work they do, and thus, affect a number of areas such as the quality of work, the way they communicate with colleagues, etc. The Value Ladder exercise helps individuals identify and prioritise the values that resonates with their personal work and the wider organisation. Being able to describe these values helps others (colleagues, partners, stakeholders) understand what one’s work is about, and how it contributes to the whole organisation. Once values are defined and effectively shared, they bring people to the same page and thus, simplifies and speeds up communication and decision making, while sheltering consistency at work.
